On Friday night we were looking for a dining option however didn’t want the usual chain restaurant or pizza or Chinese. I remember going to Yalda a few years ago and was able to convince my fiance to give it a try. It is located in Horsham, PA in Montgomery County, PA and features Afgan cuisine.
This place is BYO, so we grabbed a bottle of red wine from Chaddsford Winery and headed over. We were seated right away and our drink orders were taken right away. The restaurant was very crowded and honestly it didn’t appear to be the cleanest. It could have used a good cleaning, new paint and new menus however the decor was quaint. We started with an order of baba ganoush (roasted eggplant spread) and Mantu which is a meat and scallion filled dumpling covered in yogurt sauce. Bread or nan was served to us along with a few sauces. One was a cilantro mint based yogurt sauce and the other was a red sauce that looked like salsa. BEWARE…the red sauce has a kick. I tried a spoonful to taste not knowing this and learned my lesson very quickly. Don’t make the same mistake! For entrees I got the lamb chops and my fiance got the beef kabob. Both were served with roasted vegetables, rice, bread and a salad which had a great yogurt dressing. We were very pleased with our meals, the quality and the quantity. The bill arrived and I was pleasantly surprised as to how reasonable the cost was. Around $50.00 for the both of us. We had no complaints to the service and again, the quality of the food was fresh and very good. I’m glad we made the decision to return and will be coming back here a lot more often. Take the chance and try something different. You will not be disappointed.
